Western Union is a household name in international transfers, but its app experience no longer matched the urgency or expectations of a global audience. As the world’s mobility increases, users demand more than just function, they want clarity, speed, and confidence. Our mission was to reimagine the WU app from the ground up: a design-first concept that respects their brand trust while modernizing every touchpoint.
Leading the product design for this concept, I collaborated with a consultancy design team to structure a clear, intuitive journey across all flows, from sending money to managing a multi-currency wallet. We adopted a flexible component system, improved the information hierarchy, and introduced new UI patterns focused on trust, speed, and accessibility. The visual language blends reliability with modern minimalism to serve users across cultures, ages, and literacy levels.
The new app concept simplifies every key task: instant transfers, real-time tracking, and wallet management in multiple currencies. We proposed biometric login, dark mode, and seamless currency switching. Action buttons were restructured to prioritize high-frequency tasks. By removing friction at each step, the prototype not only looks better, it feels faster, even before code.
The final concept was highly praised by stakeholders for its clarity, scalability, and future-readiness. While technical limitations postponed full implementation, the design was greenlit as a foundation for future builds. For me, this project reinforced the power of clean systems, intentional navigation, and design that serves real global users, not just personas.
